(LOS ANGELES) — Unified Western Grocers, Inc., the largest retailer-owned grocery wholesaler in the Western United States, has named three new corporate officers — Daniel J. Murphy, senior vice president, retail support services; John C. Bedrosian, vice president, manufacturing; and Dirk T. Davis, vice president and president, Pacific Northwest Division.
"As our company continues to grow and expand, it becomes ever more critical that the officers of our company have diversified backgrounds and understand all aspects of the grocery industry," said Alfred A. Plamann, president and chief executive officer, Unified Western Grocers. "These three individuals have exceptional talent and skills and I look forward to the many contributions I know they will bring to both Unified and the many independent retailers we serve on a daily basis."
Daniel J. Murphy, a grocery industry veteran with more than 20 years of procurement, merchandising and retail operations experience, was named to the newly-created position of senior vice president, retail support services. In his new position, Murphy will be responsible for the development and introduction of programs to help Unified's member retailers and customers maximize sales and increase efficiencies.
Murphy comes to Unified from HomeGrocer.com where he was vice president, merchandising. Prior to that, he was vice president, sales and merchandising, ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc., a chain of more than 60 stores on the East Coast operated by Wakefern Food Corp.
John C. Bedrosian, a 25-year employee of Unified, was named vice president, manufacturing operations. In his new position, he will be responsible for the operation of the company's fluid milk dairy and full-service bakery, both of which are located in Los Angeles. Bedrosian will also lead an effort to expand the company's manufacturing capabilities into Northern California and the Pacific Northwest.
With more than 30 years of experience in the dairy industry, Bedrosian joined Unified in 1975 and advanced through a series of managerial positions. In 1990, he was named director of manufacturing operations and, in 1994, general manager of manufacturing.
Dirk T. Davis, an executive with more than 15 years experience in the grocery industry, was named vice president and president, Pacific Northwest Division. Based in Portland, Ore., Davis will direct the company's sales and marketing functions in Oregon, Washington and other Pacific Northwest locations.
Davis, who joined Unified in August, 2000, has more than 15 years experience in the food industry. He has served as corporate brands director of business development for Fred Meyer Stores, a division of Kroger; vice president of grocery and partner for Advantage Sales and Marketing; business manager for Kelley-Clarke, Inc., and has held various sales positions at General Mills.
